A Unitarian Universalist Congregation

Membership Orientation, Sunday, February 19, 12:30p.m.

We encourage everyone interested in learning more about us to attend our Membership Orientation on February 19. This class allows participants to get to know others who are exploring membership, as well as the minister and other lay leaders. Topics include the history of Unitarian Universalism and People's Church, our work in the wider community, and the rights and responsibilities of membership. The class will take about two hours, and a light lunch will be provided. If you need childcare in order to attend, please let us know ahead of time so arrangements can be made. The final orientation for this year will be on April 29.

February 19 "Jesus, the Buddha, and Socrates"   10:45 a.m.   Jill McAliister

Not exactly the three tenors—actually we don’t know what part any of them sang! But clearly, these three men knew some things—individually and collectively their lives and thought have had lasting influence on human life on this planet. Most people rarely consider how similar they were, how much they had in common. For me, their similarities are perhaps the most important of all.

  • Mark your calendars NOW so you don’t forget!
  • Start to think about what unique services or skills you can offer for the auction: teach, bake, host, create, share. What are you good at that someone else would really appreciate?

Between Us

This week I’m on my way to the biennial meeting of the International Council of Unitarians and Universalists, the ICUU. As many of you know, this network of the Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist organizations around the world has been part of my work for many years. As a member of the UUA Board of Trustees in 1995, I was one of the founders of the ICUU, and have been actively involved since the beginning.

The main focus of the ICUU is to help UUs around the world help each other, so that together we can increase the reach and impact of liberal religious values. It may surprise you to know how small our movement really is—there are only between 750,000 and 850,000 UUs in the whole world (compare that to 2.1 billion Christians, 1.5 billion Muslims, 14 million Jews). Therefore it is very important that we work together and help each other as much as possible!...Read more
